Schumacher criticizes Senna

Michael Schumacher has criticised Bruno Senna over the incident in Brazil that left Senna with a broken front wing, but Schumacher with a punctured front tyre. Schumacher had to limp round a lap on his rim, to get back to the pit lane, and he spent the remainder of the race trying to make up lost places, eventually finishing in 15^th. “It was a bit of a shame today with the incident with Bruno, which was caused perhaps due to some lack of experience, but then those things happen,” said Schumacher. The stewards agreed with the veteran German driver, and Senna had to complete a drive-through penalty before seeing Schumacher get past him again later on in the race.

The incident occurred in the 10^th lap when Schumacher attempted to pass Senna up the inside, and Senna turned in on Michael. Schumacher seemed to have got past completely before Senna ran into his rear tyre, causing damage to both cars as he did so. “Michael had a good battle with Senna in the early laps, and his pass at the start of lap 10 was clear-cut,” Mercedes boss Ross Brawn commented, “However, Senna showed his inexperience trying to defend a position that he had already lost, and the contact ruined Michael’s race.”

Senna was hoping for a better performance at his home circuit, and ended the race in 17^th place having started from a competitive 9^th on the grid. “What can I say – it’s been quite a difficult day and the overall feeling is one of disappointment,” said Senna. “There were many difficulties preventing us from having a better race, namely the incident with Michael and the gearbox problems.” Bruno Senna collected just two points this season, and must have hoped that the passionate Brazilian crowd would provide the lift he was looking for. “I would love to have given my home fans something to smile about, but unfortunately it was not to be.”
